Flower Tattoos
Flower tattoos are almost always pretty picture on pretty girl and rather feminine looking, but all the same there is considerable variety with regard to the style and overall look of the tattoo. Flower tattoos are, for the most part, a development of the past few decades, and testimony to the fact that it is now entirely acceptable for a woman to get a tattoo.
A Flower tattoo is often a good first tattoo for a young woman who wants something fairly subtle. Flower is an eternal symbol of cycle of birth, spring, life, beauty, fertility, procreation, death and rebirth. The shape of the flower, it's receptive cup like form and it's passive role in fertilization, has been long been seen as a symbol of the feminine.
Flower tattoos can convey a variety of looks, images and styles, from old school to tribal. Flower images are timeless and very attractive, and because they can be quite small, they can work in a variety of places.
Specific flowers have specific meanings in different cultures. In the East, the lotus flower has tremendous spiritual significance, as does the rose in the West. Similarly, the tremendous spectrum of colors present in flowers can have symbolic importance as white for purity, red for passion, or to represent the blood of Christ.

There are a few widely held traditional meanings behind roses, making them quite eloquent flowers. There is an interesting amount of polarity in what the different types of lilies signify. A water lily - purity of heart. A calla lily - maiden modesty, beauty. The day lily - coquetry. The frog lily shows disgust. The tiger lily whispers urgently, I dare you to love me. White lilies - purity and sweetness. And, yellow lilies portray coquetry, falsehood and flirtations.
A vine of roses, Hawaiian blossoms, the mysterious orchid, and interwoven daisies make great feminine armband designs. For a more masculine creation, you can incorporate the strong symmetry and geometrical design of either tribal or Celtic style artwork. Tropical flower tattoos, can be part of a Hawaiian band or isolated image that is appropriate for both men and women. A tropical flower may be seen on its own, but more often it is part of an integrated design or pattern.
