Dragon Tattoos
Dragon tattoo is the one of the most simple and popular tattoo design type. It shows the influence of Japanese and Chinese culture in western tattooing. Almost every third person out of ten wants to sport a dragon tattoo. Dragon tattoos have always remained at the top of the tattoo popularity list. People who want to show themselves as rough and tough tend to go for dragon tattoo designs.
Dragon tattoos are a common Goth image and may also be popular among people who have an interest in the art and symbols or the middle ages. A dragon tattoo is found in various forms as wondrous monster, often thought of as a giant winged, fire breathing lizard or snake. These tattoo designs are preferred by both men and women.
The word dragon is derived from the French and Latin form of the Greek, drakwu, connected with derkomai see, and interpreted as sharp sighted. The equivalent English word drake or fire-drake is derived from Anglo-Saxon draca. There are two main types of dragons found, the eastern dragon and the western dragon.
The eastern dragon is seen as a good symbol of benevolent, wise, compassionate, signal of good fortune, and harbinger of fertility whereas the western dragon is infamous for its wicked character, destruction of villages and its greed for wealth. Today dragon tattoo designs of this kind may not give somebody the ability to understand bird language, as was once believed, but it still connotes strength and a certain level of intimidation.
There is also a lot of variety in dragon tattoos and dragon images in general. Apart from the two types there are other dragon tattoos such as the Hydra, an ancient dragon from Greek Mythology, is a popular dragon tattoo, as well as Sea Serpents from Celtic and Norse Mythology.
The Chinese dragon for example is a good luck symbol that is associated with the Chinese New Year. Asian dragon tattoos are quite different from the fairy tale dragon that harkens back to the middle ages, though they are recognizably the same creature. Tribal dragon tattoos, on the other hand, are much bolder and darker.
They are either composed of or surrounded by the types of curving lines that are typically associated with tribal tattoos, so a dragon done in this style might be simplified. The graceful, curving lines of a dragon image lends itself well to a variety of tattoo styles, and dragon tattoos are a great expression of several different folklore traditions
