Christian Tattoos

Christian tattoos are most popular form of religious tattoos. Christian tattoos represent a unique and personal way of keeping Christian iconography and religious imagery close at hand. Unlike the Jewish faith, Christianity does not have any rule or guideline against tattooing, except to caution young people to be modest with regard to the image they embody in the world.

A Christian tattoo is a powerful symbol that resonates with a lot of Christian youth. Christian tattoos are popular from the 11 th century. Crusaders in the 11th Century used cross tattoos along their hands to affirm their steadfast faith and also indicate that they wished to have a Christian burial.

For much of the 19th and 20th century tattoos were the province of sailors and circus performers who used them to shock and awe their audiences. These extreme displays of body art were condoned only because many of them included Christian tattoos.

There are various Christian symbols used in the Christian tattoo designing. The most offered and recognizable form of Christian tattoo is a cross. Christian tattoos depicting various forms of the cross are always plentiful. Some cross tattoos show Jesus on the cross, while others show the cross often with realistic wood graining with a crown of thorns hung over one arm. Other cross tattoos consist of crossed nails big, rough looking nails like those that were used to hang Jesus on the cross.

Other forms of Christian cross tattoos include the Celtic cross, the Russian cross, and the Egyptian ankh. An Egyptian ankh is a cross with a circular shape on top, the ancient Egyptian symbol for life. These Christian tattoos are rather more complex many involve a tattooed image of a saint, Jesus, or the Virgin Mary.

Apart from cross symbols there are many other images that are used in the Christian tattoo designing the most popular one is fish. The fish symbol is based on various biblical references; a stylized fish symbol is often used as a symbol of Christ. This is a compact, but quite striking symbol that lends itself well to tattooing, especially in black.

The other Christian symbols are a crown indicates the royal power and authority, a bunch of grapes which symbolizes communion, a burning torch the crown of thorns and the butterfly, whose mystical metamorphosis has been used time and time again to represent the falling away of the old man and the birth and flourishing of the new man or woman.

There is no end to the number and scope of the designs that can be used in Christian tattoos. Another form Hispanic Christian tattoo often gang related, are an intriguing sub group. Hispanic tattoos often feature words, as well usually a Bible verse, perhaps accompanied by a loved one's name.
